What is tested?
This panel maps out a broad set of blood values that are often relevant around an IVF pathway. It measures:
- AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone): can give an impression of your egg supply.
- FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone): plays a role in the maturation of your follicles.
- LH (Luteinizing Hormone): involved in your ovulation.
- Estradiol (E2): one of your most important oestrogens.
- Progesterone: a hormone that rises after ovulation.
- Prolactin: can influence your cycle when it is elevated.

What can this test tell you?
The results can give you insight on several fronts. The hormone values and AMH may say something about your ovarian reserve and your cycle. The thyroid markers give an impression of how your thyroid is functioning, something often included around family planning.
The nutrients such as ferritin, folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin D show how a number of reserves are doing. The infection serology and your blood type belong to the information clinics usually want to know before treatment continues.
How is the sample collected?
This test requires a blood draw at a certified lab. In the Netherlands you can choose from 700+ sample points, so there is almost always a location near you.

When is this test useful?
This panel can be valuable at different moments, for example:
- when you are preparing for IVF or another fertility treatment

Some hormone values relate to your cycle. For those measurements a particular cycle day can be relevant; you can read more about this under preparation.
What do the results mean?
You receive an overview of all your values, each with a reference range and a short explanation. What counts as usual varies by laboratory and sometimes by situation, such as your age or cycle phase.
A value outside the range does not necessarily mean much on its own. With the infection serology, for instance, the question is often whether antibodies are present. The BIG-registered doctor helps you place your results in the right context.
Preparation
For some of the hormones it can help to draw blood on a particular day of your cycle; FSH, LH and estradiol, for example, are often measured early in the cycle. AMH can be measured at any time.
For most of the other values in this panel, no special preparation is needed. If you are unsure about the best timing, you can align it with your clinic or GP. Bring a valid form of ID to the sample point.
What happens after the results?

TSH is thyroid-stimulating hormone. The pituitary gland makes it, and uses it to drive your thyroid. At the laboratory that runs the test the usual adult range runs from 0.27 to 4.20 mE/L. A high TSH usually fits an underactive thyroid. A low value usually fits an overactive one. That direction feels inverted, and it is. TSH is the pituitary signal, not the thyroid hormone itself. Laboratories use slightly different limits from one another. Always read the reference value printed on your own result. And a single measurement is never a diagnosis.

Basophils
Basophils are the least numerous white blood cells in your blood count. In women the same range applies as in men: 0 to 0.2 x10⁹/l. Your cycle and a pregnancy do not change that range. A low or absent result is normal and needs no follow-up. If your basophils are raised, allergy, chronic inflammation and an underactive thyroid are the known causes. That last one is considerably more common in women. Below you can read when a rise is worth checking, and which thyroid test belongs with it.
