4 markersA B vitamin panel measuring Vitamin B12, Folate, Vitamin B1, and Vitamin B6. These vitamins play roles in energy metabolism, nervous system function, and red blood cell production.
Why this test?
B vitamins are involved in a wide range of bodily functions including energy production, nervous system health, and the creation of red blood cells. Deficiencies can develop gradually and may cause symptoms that overlap with many other conditions, such as fatigue, mood changes, or tingling sensations. Testing multiple B vitamins together can provide a broader view of B vitamin status.
Who is this test for?
This test may be relevant for women who:
- Experience symptoms such as fatigue, mood changes, or neurological symptoms like tingling
- Follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, which may be lower in certain B vitamins
- Take medications that may affect B vitamin absorption
- Want to check their B vitamin levels as part of a nutritional assessment
What is tested?
This panel measures four B vitamins:
- Vitamin B12: involved in red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis; found primarily in animal products
- Folate (Folic Acid): involved in cell division and red blood cell production; commonly monitored during pregnancy and in women of reproductive age
- Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): involved in energy metabolism and nervous system function
- Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): involved in amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter production, and immune function
What can this test tell you?
Low B12 can be associated with a type of anemia and neurological symptoms. Low folate may affect cell production and is commonly monitored in women of reproductive age. B1 and B6 deficiencies are less common but can occur in certain dietary patterns or with specific medication use. Together, these results provide a picture of B vitamin status that can be discussed with a healthcare provider.
How is the sample collected?
The test requires a blood draw at a certified sample point (afnamepunt). There are over 750 locations across the Netherlands. After placing your order, you can select a convenient location and schedule your visit.
When is this test useful?
This test may be considered when:
- You experience symptoms that may be related to B vitamin deficiency
- You follow a diet that may be low in certain B vitamins
- You want to assess your B vitamin status alongside other health markers
- You take medications that may affect B vitamin absorption or metabolism
What do the results mean?
Each vitamin is shown with your value and the reference range. Low levels may suggest inadequate intake, reduced absorption, or increased demand. Results should be interpreted in the context of your diet, supplementation, and overall health. A healthcare provider can help determine whether any adjustments may be appropriate.
Preparation
No specific preparation is needed. No fasting is required. If you take B vitamin supplements, results will reflect your supplemented levels, which may be useful for assessing whether your current supplementation is adequate.
What happens after the results?
Your results are typically available within a few working days. Each vitamin is shown with your value, the reference range, and an explanation. These results can be discussed with your healthcare provider or dietitian to determine whether any dietary or supplementation adjustments may be appropriate.

What We Test
This test includes 4 biomarkers to give you a comprehensive health picture.
Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is a water-soluble vitamin involved in cell division and DNA synthesis. Adequate folate levels are considered important for overall health and may be particularly relevant during periods of rapid growth.
Learn moreVitamin B1 (thiamine) is considered essential for converting carbohydrates into energy. It may also support nervous system function. Healthcare providers sometimes recommend testing when fatigue or neurological concerns arise.
Learn moreVitamin B12 is considered essential for red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis. Deficiency may develop gradually and is sometimes associated with dietary patterns. Healthcare providers can help interpret your results.
Learn moreVitamin B6 is considered essential for amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and immune function. It may play a role in over 100 enzyme reactions. Healthcare providers can help assess your levels in context.
Learn moreFolate (Folic Acid)
VitaminsFolate, also known as vitamin B9, is a water-soluble vitamin involved in cell division and DNA synthesis. Adequate folate levels are considered important for overall health and may be particularly relevant during periods of rapid growth.
Folate is considered vital for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and proper neural tube development during pregnancy. Low levels may be associated with anaemia, fatigue, and increased cardiovascular risk. Your healthcare provider can advise on appropriate levels.
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)
VitaminsVitamin B1 (thiamine) is considered essential for converting carbohydrates into energy. It may also support nervous system function. Healthcare providers sometimes recommend testing when fatigue or neurological concerns arise.
Thiamine is believed to play a key role in energy production and nerve signal transmission. Low levels may be associated with fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and in severe cases, conditions such as beriberi. Consult your healthcare provider for personalised guidance.
Vitamin B12
VitaminsVitamin B12 is considered essential for red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA synthesis. Deficiency may develop gradually and is sometimes associated with dietary patterns. Healthcare providers can help interpret your results.
Vitamin B12 is believed to be vital for healthy nerve cells, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis. Low levels may be associated with anaemia, fatigue, and neurological symptoms. Early detection through testing may help prevent long-term complications.
Vitamin B6
VitaminsVitamin B6 is considered essential for amino acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis, and immune function. It may play a role in over 100 enzyme reactions. Healthcare providers can help assess your levels in context.
Vitamin B6 is believed to be involved in neurotransmitter synthesis, immune regulation, and haemoglobin production. Low levels may be associated with mood changes, weakened immunity, and anaemia. Adequate levels may support cognitive function and overall wellbeing.
