Included Markers

5 markers
Thyroglobulin Antibodies TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) Free T4 (Thyroxine) TPO Antibodies Free T3 (Triiodothyronine)

A thorough thyroid panel that includes TSH, Free T3, Free T4, and thyroid antibodies. This combination can help assess thyroid function and may indicate whether autoimmune thyroid involvement is present.

Why this test?

The thyroid gland influences metabolism, energy, mood, and reproductive health. Symptoms of thyroid imbalance can be subtle and overlap with many other conditions, making blood testing a commonly used approach. This panel goes beyond basic thyroid screening by including antibody markers, which may help identify autoimmune patterns.

Who is this test for?

This test may be relevant for women who:

  • Experience symptoms such as fatigue, weight changes, or mood fluctuations
  • Have a family history of thyroid conditions
  • Want to check for autoimmune thyroid markers
  • Are experiencing fertility-related concerns, as thyroid function can influence reproductive health

What is tested?

This panel measures five markers:

  • TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): produced by the pituitary gland to regulate thyroid activity; often the first marker checked in thyroid screening
  • Free T4: the unbound form of thyroxine, the main hormone produced by the thyroid
  • Free T3: the unbound form of triiodothyronine, the more active thyroid hormone
  • TPO Antibodies (Anti-TPO): antibodies directed against thyroid peroxidase; elevated levels may be associated with autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis
  • Thyroglobulin Antibodies (Anti-Tg): antibodies directed against thyroglobulin; may also be associated with autoimmune thyroid involvement

What can this test tell you?

TSH, Free T4, and Free T3 together provide a picture of how the thyroid is functioning. An elevated TSH with low Free T4 may suggest underactive thyroid function, while a suppressed TSH with elevated Free T4 or T3 may suggest overactivity. The antibody markers add another layer: elevated TPO or Tg antibodies may indicate an autoimmune component, which can be relevant for understanding the underlying cause and for long-term monitoring.

How is the sample collected?

The test requires a blood draw at a certified sample point (afnamepunt). There are over 750 locations across the Netherlands. After placing your order, you can select a convenient location and schedule your visit.

When is this test useful?

This test may be considered when:

  • You experience persistent fatigue, unexplained weight changes, or sensitivity to cold or heat
  • You have a family history of thyroid or autoimmune conditions
  • You want a more thorough thyroid assessment beyond TSH alone
  • Thyroid involvement is being considered in the context of fertility or menstrual irregularity

What do the results mean?

Each marker is presented with your value and the reference range. Abnormal TSH alongside abnormal Free T4 or T3 may suggest a thyroid imbalance. Elevated antibody levels do not always mean active disease, but they may indicate a predisposition to autoimmune thyroid conditions. Results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider who can consider them alongside your symptoms and medical history.

Preparation

No specific preparation is needed. No fasting is required. If you take thyroid medication, discuss timing with your healthcare provider, as some providers prefer testing before the morning dose.

What happens after the results?

Your results are typically available within a few working days. Each marker is shown with your value, the reference range, and an explanation. These results can serve as a basis for discussion with your healthcare provider about whether further evaluation or follow-up may be appropriate.

What We Test

This test includes 5 biomarkers to give you a comprehensive health picture.

Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb) are immune proteins that may target thyroglobulin, a protein involved in thyroid hormone production. Their presence might suggest autoimmune thyroid activity. Healthcare providers often assess them alongside other thyroid antibodies.

TSH, or thyroid-stimulating hormone, is produced by the pituitary gland and controls the thyroid. It is the most commonly used blood value to assess thyroid function. An abnormal TSH level can indicate an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Thyroid problems are common — especially in women — and can cause a wide range of symptoms, from fatigue and weight gain to palpitations and nervousness.

Learn more

Free T4 (thyroxine) is the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It may serve as a precursor that your body converts into the more active T3. Healthcare providers often consider Free T4 a primary indicator of thyroid gland output.

Learn more

TPO antibodies target the thyroid peroxidase enzyme involved in thyroid hormone production. Elevated levels may indicate autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Your healthcare provider can help determine what your TPO antibody results mean for your health.

Learn more

Free T3 (triiodothronine) is considered the most active thyroid hormone. It may play a key role in regulating metabolism, energy production, and body temperature. Healthcare providers often assess Free T3 alongside other thyroid markers for a comprehensive picture.
