Included Markers
3 markersA lipid panel measuring HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides. These markers together provide a picture of cholesterol balance and lipid metabolism.
Why this test?
Cholesterol and lipid levels play a role in cardiovascular health. Changes in lipid balance can develop gradually without noticeable symptoms. A lipid panel provides data about the different types of cholesterol and fats circulating in the blood, which may be relevant for understanding cardiovascular risk factors.
Who is this test for?
This test may be relevant for women who:
- Want to check their cholesterol levels
- Have a family history of cardiovascular conditions
- Want to monitor lipid levels over time
- Would like data about cholesterol balance to discuss with their healthcare provider
What is tested?
This panel measures four lipid markers:
- HDL Cholesterol: often referred to as "good" cholesterol; higher levels are generally considered favorable
- LDL Cholesterol: often referred to as "bad" cholesterol; elevated levels may be associated with increased cardiovascular risk
- Triglycerides: a type of fat in the blood; elevated levels may be associated with metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors
What can this test tell you?
The lipid markers are typically interpreted together rather than individually. The balance between HDL and LDL, along with triglyceride levels, may provide context about cardiovascular risk factors. Diet, exercise, genetics, and other factors can all influence lipid levels. These results can be discussed with a healthcare provider who can interpret them alongside your personal health history.
How is the sample collected?
The test requires a blood draw at a certified sample point (afnamepunt). There are over 750 locations across the Netherlands. Since fasting is required, scheduling a morning appointment is recommended.
When is this test useful?
This test may be considered when:
- You want to check your cholesterol balance
- You have a family history of high cholesterol or cardiovascular conditions
- You want to monitor the effect of lifestyle changes on lipid levels
- You want lipid data to discuss with your healthcare provider
What do the results mean?
Each marker is shown with your value and the reference range. Elevated LDL or triglycerides, or low HDL, may be associated with increased cardiovascular risk factors. However, lipid levels are influenced by many variables including genetics, diet, and activity level. A single test provides a snapshot, and results should be interpreted by a healthcare provider in context.
Preparation
Fasting is required for 8 to 12 hours before the blood draw (water is permitted). This ensures accurate lipid measurements, as recent food intake can temporarily affect triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
What happens after the results?
Your results are typically available within a few working days. Each marker is shown with your value, the reference range, and an explanation. These results can be discussed with your healthcare provider to determine whether any follow-up may be appropriate.

What We Test
This test includes 3 biomarkers to give you a comprehensive health picture.
Triglycerides are the most common type of fat in the body, used for energy storage. Elevated levels may be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, especially when combined with other lipid abnormalities.
Learn moreLDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is often called "bad" cholesterol because elevated levels can lead to plaque build-up in artery walls, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Learn moreHDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is often called "good" cholesterol because it helps transport excess cholesterol from the arteries back to the liver for removal. Higher HDL levels are generally associated with lower cardiovascular risk.

CardiovascularTriglycerides are the most common type of fat in the body, used for energy storage. Elevated levels may be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, especially when combined with other lipid abnormalities.
Elevated triglycerides may contribute to atherosclerosis and are a component of metabolic syndrome. They are often elevated alongside insulin resistance. Consult your healthcare provider.
LDL Cholesterol
CardiovascularLDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is often called "bad" cholesterol because elevated levels can lead to plaque build-up in artery walls, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
LDL cholesterol is a primary driver of atherosclerosis. Lowering elevated LDL is one of the most effective strategies for reducing cardiovascular disease risk. Consult your healthcare provider for personalised targets.
HDL Cholesterol
CardiovascularHDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol is often called "good" cholesterol because it helps transport excess cholesterol from the arteries back to the liver for removal. Higher HDL levels are generally associated with lower cardiovascular risk.
HDL cholesterol is a key component of cardiovascular risk assessment. Low HDL may be associated with increased heart disease risk, while healthy levels support arterial protection. Consult your healthcare provider for personalised guidance.
