Included Markers

2 markers
HbA1c (Glycated Hemoglobin) Glucose (Fasting)

A diabetes screening panel measuring Fasting Glucose and HbA1c. Together, these markers provide both a current and a longer-term view of blood sugar regulation.

Why this test?

Blood sugar regulation is a gradual process, and changes can develop over time before symptoms appear. Measuring both fasting glucose (a snapshot of current blood sugar) and HbA1c (an average over the past 2 to 3 months) provides a more complete picture than either marker alone.

Who is this test for?

This test may be relevant for women who:

  • Have a family history of type 2 diabetes
  • Want to check blood sugar regulation as part of a health assessment
  • Experience symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, or fatigue
  • Have risk factors such as PCOS, which is associated with insulin resistance

What is tested?

This panel measures two markers:

  • Glucose (Fasting): the blood sugar level after fasting for 8 to 12 hours; provides a snapshot of current glucose regulation
  • HbA1c: reflects the average blood sugar level over the past 2 to 3 months by measuring the percentage of hemoglobin that has glucose attached

What can this test tell you?

Fasting glucose shows how the body manages blood sugar in a fasted state. HbA1c provides a longer-term view and is less affected by day-to-day fluctuations. Together, they can indicate whether blood sugar regulation may warrant further attention. Elevated values for either marker may be associated with prediabetes or diabetes, though diagnosis requires clinical evaluation.

How is the sample collected?

The test requires a blood draw at a certified sample point (afnamepunt). There are over 750 locations across the Netherlands. Since fasting is required, scheduling a morning appointment is recommended.

When is this test useful?

This test may be considered when:

  • You want to screen for blood sugar regulation issues
  • You have a family history of diabetes
  • You have risk factors such as PCOS or elevated body weight
  • You want baseline blood sugar data for future comparison

What do the results mean?

Each marker is shown with your value and the reference range. Fasting glucose within the normal range alongside a normal HbA1c generally suggests blood sugar regulation is functioning as expected. Elevated values in either marker may suggest further evaluation is appropriate. Results should be discussed with a healthcare provider for proper interpretation and context.

Preparation

Fasting is required for 8 to 12 hours before the blood draw (water is permitted). Schedule a morning appointment for optimal results.

What happens after the results?

Your results are typically available within a few working days. Each marker is shown with your value, the reference range, and an explanation. These results can be discussed with your healthcare provider to determine whether further evaluation or monitoring may be appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What We Test

This test includes 2 biomarkers to give you a comprehensive health picture.

HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) reflects your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It is the gold standard for long-term blood sugar monitoring and diabetes management.

Learn more

Glucose is the primary energy source for your body. Your fasting glucose level (measured after at least eight hours of fasting) indicates how well your body can regulate blood sugar. An elevated fasting glucose can indicate prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, while a low value (hypoglycaemia) can cause symptoms such as trembling, sweating, and difficulty concentrating.
