Nut Panel 2 (fx22)

The Nut Panel 2 (fx22) provides extended tree nut screening. For women, comprehensive allergy identification supports safe nutrition during pregnancy.

What It Measures

This panel measures specific IgE antibodies against walnut, cashew, pecan, pistachio, and macadamia. A positive result indicates sensitisation to at least one nut in this mix.

Why It Matters

Cashew and walnut allergies are among the most common causes of severe nut-related anaphylaxis. This panel covers species not included in fx1.

When to Test

Consider this panel alongside fx1 for comprehensive nut allergy assessment, or if you have experienced reactions after eating walnuts, cashews, or pistachios.

Lifestyle Tips

If sensitisation is confirmed, your allergist will advise which nuts to avoid. Cross-reactivity between cashew and pistachio is very high, and between walnut and pecan. Always carry emergency medication.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a second nut panel?
The first panel covers the most common nuts, while fx22 covers additional important tree nuts. Together they provide comprehensive coverage.
Are cashew and pistachio allergies related?
Yes. They belong to the same botanical family and cross-reactivity is very common.
Can I be allergic to some nuts but not others?
Yes. Nut allergies are specific to individual species, though some cross-reactivities exist.
