Why you do not need a referral
In the Dutch system, your huisarts decides which blood tests are ordered — and without one, or without a Dutch-speaking consultation, routine testing is hard to arrange. Private blood testing works differently: you decide what you want to know, and a registered doctor assesses the outcome.
That makes it a practical route for internationals: no registration wait, no referral discussion, no language barrier. You pay for the test yourself; it is not billed to Dutch health insurance.

Do I need a referral from a huisarts (GP)?
No. You order the test yourself and a registered doctor assesses your results. No referral, no appointment with a GP.
Is everything in English?
Yes — ordering, the results portal, and the doctor's assessment are available in English. Staff at draw locations generally speak English as well.
How fast do I get results?
Most results are ready within a few working days of your blood draw. Each test shows its own turnaround estimate before you order.
Is it covered by Dutch health insurance?
No. This is a private test that you pay for directly — which is exactly why no referral is needed. Prices are shown upfront, with no hidden costs.
Do I need a BSN or Dutch GP registration?
You do not need to be registered with a Dutch GP. You order online, identify yourself at the draw location, and receive your results in your own account.
